I remember talking to the guys on the Gillett stand about doing a guitar at the last bass show I went to. Good to see that they have produced one now. Enjoy it when you receive it.

I reckon that’s a spot on description.

I posted a picture of me playing my Aria here

What's odd is that Epiphone have included coil taps on their LPs (and other models) for years.

My Yammy SA2000. I really got into playing country and that semi didn’t seem ‘right’ at the time; what a mistake to make. Fender Ash Lite Tele. It wasn’t being played, but I should’ve just kept it as I pretty much replaced it many years later with a not as good model. My first ‘good’ guitar, an Aria lawsuit LP. I replaced the pickups with DiMarzio SDHBs and it was an absolute monster.

Once again, top work.

Mine would be a Thinline Tele with a bound top, but with a belly contour and a forearm chamfer. It would be fitted with P90s.

If I’m using roundwounds on bass, it’ll be D’Addarios too. However, I’ve recently been won over by EB cobalt flats for my low end rumblings.

A new addition to the stable at Ez Towers, an Epiphone Casino Coupe against my Fender Super Champ X2. I've taken off the bright white scratch plate, replaced the white switch tip with a cream one and added a 'closed crown' inlay to the, previously, rather bare headstock.

That case looks mighty familiar, I had one just like it for my first 'good' guitar, an Aria LP copy, with bolt on neck (is that rather Ibby a bolt on?). Here's a teenage me with the axe in question...

I’ve been using D’Addario EXLs for donkey’s years, I’ve tried others but always come back to these. Nice feel, good tone and not expensive.

Nice review, thanks for posting. I really like Richie Kotzen and Teles in general, so this was really interesting for me.- 1 reply

I don't know enough about Vs to say whether yay or nay in terms of it being the real deal, but the missing digit may just have been a poor imprint on the day (Gibson certainly have their QC moments).

The singer in one of my bands bought a Harley Benton ‘Ric-alike’ 12 string which was remarkably good value, plays well and sounds great. https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_rb_612bk_classic_series.htm

IIRC I’ve had: Traynor 2x12 (a Fender Twin clone that weighed a ton). Marshall Country & Club Fender Hot Rod Deluxe (I replaced the speaker with a Jensen 12”, which improved it no end). A self build Stinger amp, designed by Denis Cornell, 1x10, 11w. Fender Super Champ X2 (my current amp, albeit with some digital FX gubbins in it). But the best valve amp I ever owned was Fender ‘59 Bassman reissue. 4x10, 2x6L6 and loud as hell! I modded it so it be a master volume amp, with preamp gain control. What a tone.

Fine, fine guitars. I owned an original run McCarty and a Swamp Ash Special, both were fantastic players with bags of great tone, although eventually I found the ergonomics weren’t for me. I also had an SE singlecut later on which was better for me as a design and was stunning value for money. I’ll see if I have any pictures stored somewhere. EDIT: None of the Swamp Ash Special sadly. However...

P90s for the win.

Right, let's get this forum moving with some satiated GAS. Having tried this out last week, I pulled the trigger today and I'm ever so glad I waited, £60 off the advertised online price. I've taken off the horribly contrasting white pickguard and have set it up. Plays really nicely and those stock P90s sound great, especially the neck pickup. Minor gripes are that there a few sharpish fret ends (easily fixed) and that the pau ferro used for the fretboard has obviously been stained a bit and putting some lemon oil on the rather dry looking 'board, caused some stain to come off on my fingers. Still that's merely cosmetic and, again, easily fixable. Oh what's that I hear you say? Very well...

Guitar Guitar in Birmingham have one at the moment https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/pxp180812331231004-1821754--yamaha-sg700s-trans-green-mij-pre-owned-qj0029f but you’re right, you just don’t see them that much and they were such good guitars. I also have a soft spot for the ‘Super Flighter’ which was a cheaper alternative to the SG.

That partscaster looks quality.

I like Guitar Guitar, the range at my local branch (Epsom) is huge! However, I also have a soft spot for Guitar Village in Farnham as I find their old, rambling premises intriguing, with lots of nooks and crannies hiding some nice gear. Anderton’s in Guildford is good too, albeit a bit of a drive (as is GV).
