  1. I see that the even cheaper Yammy 012 is identical to the 112J except that it has cheaper body wood...
  2. P/G mounted electronics worked for Leo. As to the differences beyond that, it appears to be ceramic vs Alnico (plus coil tap) and bridge type.
  3. Now that’s done, I’ve ordered a tremolo pedal kit. Watch this space for more soldering shenanigans.
  4. Short demo (forgive the playing). First clean, then full on (controls at 3 o'clock, 5 being max), followed by backing the guitar's vol control off a little at a time down to about 7. Then working back up again and then off/clean.
  5. As far as I can see the cheaper one has all its components mounted on the p/g whilst the other has body mount controls. Perhaps there’s a difference in the p/ups too. A visit to the Yammy website might clear that up.
  6. Another one jumps the fence, welcome. I can’t help with a source for used bits and bobs, but I‘ve recently used these guys for new stuff, I’m happy with their service and range. https://www.northwestguitars.co.uk
  7. Another vote for the separate bridge here. It just look 'right' for this style of guitar.
  8. Yammy 112 all day long in that case https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/search/?Query=112&Filters.Ordering=7&Filters.CategoryBranch=guitars&Filters.MinPrice=&Filters.MaxPrice=&Filters.Brand=Yamaha
  9. Welcome to the dark side (or light side depending on your primary allegiance). Same rules on cheap instruments apply here as on BC: Harley Benton, Squier Affinity, etc. Reasonable build quality, cheap electrics. First step is to decide what you fancy aesthetically, Tele, Strat, Les Paul, SG, ES type, certainly something that will inspire you to pick it up. If you really do want to be Steve Vai on occasion, I reckon a Yamaha Pacifica 112 is a no brainer. Whatever you go for (although not so necessary on the Yammy), get a pro setup, including a fret level/polish, it’ll be well worth it.
  10. Wired and tested the main board today, it works! Still awaiting some smoothing caps, so no sound clips as yet.
  11. Hmm, interesting. New projects have certainly dictated a perusal, and often purchase, of new gear. However, these choices have rarely been dictated by genre/audience expectation, more by something I feel was missing in the gear at the time. Having said that, one band I was in was a rockabilly inspired outfit. I initially did this with a couple of PRS’s and a Tech21 Trademark 60 and then a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, which were more than adequate, but as we went along I started to look at hollowbodies and eventually ended up with a Gretsch, Bigsby equipped hollowbody and a Fender ‘59 Bassman reissue. This was not influenced by the look, but by the tone. Nothing sounded better for the music we were playing and started my love of hollowbody guitars fitted with Bigsby trems. My dream guitar would be a Gretsch 6120, but I can’t justify the cost, thus my current Epiphone, main squeeze.
  12. The replacement pickup market is huge. I suppose the biggest players are Seymour Duncan and DiMarzio but there are many others. I recently fitted a pair of Artec P90s to my Casino Coupé, I’ve been blown away by how good they are and they only cost £30 for the pair! Previously, I’ve been a DiMarzio fan boy as I love their products and I have found their customer support to be exemplary. Here’s a link to a parts supplier I have used recently who supply a good range of pickups https://www.northwestguitars.co.uk/pickups/?_bc_fsnf=1
  13. I assume that the pickups are a 4 wire hookup to allow ‘splitting’.
  14. Of course there is the BC thread dedicated to this very subject https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/434753-i-want-a-cheap-telecaster/#comments
  15. It begins... It's very fiddly and the instructions aren't the clearest, so I'm going to take my time and do some more another day.
  16. Squier Affinity is a safe bet and Harley Benton T types are super cheap. However, if you could stretch that budget just a bit, you could get a Squier Classic Vibe 50s or 60s and they are quality instruments that would see you right for ages (I’ve had mine years).
  17. Kit arrived today. I was hoping that I might be able to stretch the build over a few days, but it looks very much like a one session affair. I’ll start tomorrow.
  18. Given that we're going to be spending at least a month indoors and that my outside pursuit of chasing a small white ball around the countryside with a bag of sticks has been curtailed, I've decided to build myself a Fuzz Face clone. I love Eric Johnson's singing lead tone and have only recently realised that the main component of this is a Fuzz Face (all the EJ anoraks go, "Yeah, duh!") so this could be fun. I'll post photos and more details when it arrives, having only just pulled the trigger on this https://shop.pedalparts.co.uk/Fuzz_Face/p847124_4240480.aspx
  19. Really nice chorus pedal that. I had one back in the day, proper lush chorus. GLWTS.
  20. If it’s the weight of the Twin that’s the only issue, I’d be inclined to sell both and buy a Fender Tone Master Twin. https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/190603344423008--fender-tone-master-twin-reverb-amp
  21. 4 guitars and 4 basses at chez Ez. Bass is my primary instrument, so they’re the expensive axes.
