  1. When i used to work in 'the shop', the amount of guys who'd come in saying how they started on these and are looking to go onto "something better... like a squier" Personally some varieties of this model line are far superior than some of the shit that's pumped out now at double the price. I've got much love for Yamaha for what they do.

  2. Get some wood. Kicking off with a Martin from circa 1840 with original hard case, but a dodgy newer bridge... which will soon replaced with an original looking one when I get some cash!

  4. So, pretty much bringing it up to date... Before gluing the top and back on, it's the time to check the fit of things that will be very difficult once the chamber is sealed! Such as where the pre-amp is going to sit: Then, first, the top is glued: The back still has a little to do. The maple cross-grain strips are put on to strengthen the bookmatch join. There is quite a thickness difference in the body between the neck and the tail so I've clamped with a fulcrum strip to help that along while the strips dry: Then the all important label - almost impossible to put it in straight once the back is glued on! The top is now almost final thickness and, being spruce, is susceptible to damage, so I made some ply cauls, chamfered on the bottom edge, to clamp against: And then the back is glued Looks promising: Mind you - having done all that work on the body, the most scary bit is still to do - routing the binding channels and neck mortice slot. Could still end up as BBQ wood, yet!!!! And bringing right up to date with this afternoon, turned my attention to the neck and fretboard. All will be revealed tomorrow:

  5. A couple of players I enjoy and haven’t seen mentioned yet. Steve Rothery - I prefer marillions earlier albums where he played more obvious solos but his solo album is great. Joe Bonamassa- I understand the criticism of his songs writing compared to when he plays covers but he is prolific and constsnty busy. His work with Beth Hart is probably my favourite at the movement.

  11. My old trusty 77 Tele, much missed. Seen with my old 1956 and 1957 Champ amps.

  12. I have a couple currently, a 2004 Fender Japan 62 Reissue and a heavily modified Fenix copy (photo is from about 10 years ago - I've replaced the bridge since then). In the past I owned a JD signature model and Francis Rossi Signature model (wish I hadn't sold that!). I do have plans to build a Rick Parfitt replica as well. Andy
