  1. I got my Squire Jaguar delivered today, together with a Jazzmaster I haven't gotten around to play yet, both Classic Vibes models. I've been interested in these classic models, but not in paying for Fenders First impression is that the build quality is excellent. It's much heavier than I'm used to, and the neck much narrower than I'm used to. The tuners seems to hold up well. The pick ups seems to have a slight phase issue, I don't know if it's intentionally or not, I like it though, it works for me. It's got this vibrato system which is new to me, used moderately it seems to work fine. I haven't tried to dive bomb the strings yet. Lots of knobs on this guitar, I haven't quite figured what all of them are used for yet, I guess I need to get on the internet at some point. It didn't take long to get used to, and the neck is really easy to play, bending notes is really easy as well, thanks to the floating vibrato I guess. All in all a lot of guitar for the money in my opinion. I might change the pick ups at some point though. Not my guitar in the photo, same model and colour though. Surf Green!

  2. Ah yes, I've seen that exercise before - think it's often referred to as the spider walk exercise or something...? Sounds similar & definitely sounds like it'll be beneficial. I've glanced at upcoming lessons I'll have once I feel ready to progress on & can see that finger exercises & the like are soon to be introduced. Those exercises you mention definitely sound very beneficial so I'll look into them for sure - always appreciate the super helpful advice so big thanks!!!

  3. I'm not a superstrat guy, but they do these things really well. Also seem to be the guitars they give their highest specs to most commonly.

  4. Hey! Thanks for asking about me. I'm still kind of a newbie on the guitar, but I'm really excited to be learning the ropes. Playing chords and strumming patterns is where I'm at right now, and it's been a cool journey so far. As for my music taste, I'm into a mix of stuff. Lately, I've been drawn to indie folk and mellow vibes – artists like Vance Joy and Norah Jones have been on my playlist a lot. But honestly, I'm open to different genres. I might be in the mood for some classic jazz one day and then switch to alt-rock the next. In my learning journey, right now I'm just having a blast jamming and picking up the guitar using an learning game app. This app is all about playing songs with a few chords, which is exactly what I need at this stage... How about you? Got any tips or songs you think I should check out?

  6. When you come back: Tuning. There are tuner apps for Android, and I assume for iPhone too. Guitar Tuna is the Android app I fall back on if I haven't got a hardware tuner to hand. Chords. Start with the ones using open strings. E, A, D, C, G, Em, Am, Dm. "House of the Rising Sun" used to be a traditional song to start a guitar career on (there is an F in there too). Once you get reasonably comfortable with them as you'll find them in the chord books, experiment a bit with barres across two or three strings - for example, barre the top three strings at the 2nd fret with your forefinger and use your middle finger on the 3rd fret of the B string for D. Barres. Once you've got comfortable with the chord shapes using open strings, you can move them up the fretboard with your forefinger taking the place of the nut. So if you use your forefinger to fret across all 6 strings at the first fret and use the other three fingers to make an E shape, you're playing F. The same applies to the A shape and C shape, and the Am and Em shapes.
