The short scale and offset shape really fits me and I feel like it's helped me progress and play more challenging material. But... I'm missing the acoustic sound of my hollow body. I can't always plug in when I'm practicing at the moment and the unamplified sound of the Jag is uninspiring to say the least. I went back to the semi hollow (it's a peerless tonemaster custom, 25.5" scale, full 17.5" body) and although it sounds lovely, it felt unwieldy. So, is there such a thing as an offset short(er) scale semi hollow? Closest I've seen is a dangelico bedford semi hollow, but can't see one nearby to try Any suggestions? Try an Epiphone Casino Coupé if you can. The smaller body makes the whole thing far more manageable and, being totally hollow, quite loud unplugged. The pickups are nothing to write home about but, otherwise, pretty good. For total clarity, I have one myself and have replaced the pickups and fitted a Bigsby. The 24.75" scale is way friendlier than 25.5", although the neck is quite chunky. All that being said, I'm a total Gretsch fanboy. FrankAtari Posted November 24, 2022 Share Posted November 24, 2022 (edited) I would say that if you love the guitar you have, you shouldn't replace it too easily. They sell something called "guitar plug" which is basically a micro amp that goes directly into your guitar output jack and allows you to play with a headset. Other micro amps can get the job done, for instance I use the Mooer Radar for that purpose. On the other hand, if your main problem is that you miss the acoustic sound, there's nothing much to do, you may indeed want to consider a new instrument. Good luck. Actually I also am interested in a more resonant / semi hollow guitar, but I do not need any smaller scale. I like fender acoustasonic, but it's expensive and it neither one thing nor the other. I tried a few things but the one that clicked for me was a Reverend club king 290. Although it's a 25.5 inch scale it didn't feel a stretch. It balances as well as my jag. It's semi hollow but feels more chambered than other semis. The tones were amazing though. Really responsive to touch, and the bass cut and tone knobs give lots of scope for changing sounds. Anyway, I'll have my eye out for one of these. If I can flog something off I might even trat myself to a new one. I'm a fan of that mix of design cues that look like the guitar belongs in the fifties, but isn't styled after any one specific model or even brand.
