I sold my Squier V1 after I bought the Silhouette Six, I don't think the silhouette gets as deep as the squier, but it feels like half the weight, certainly smaller, and have often wondered what the pups were designed for. As it's a guitar a complete octave down now I guess it doesn't need to replace the bass player as such.

I've spent my whole life using my hands for work or pleasure, (eh ?), airfix kits to tuning car engines, this is great, really excellent, well done fella. J

Thanks, nothing like using strings that suit the individual, do any of you guys have enough knowledge to say which makes of flatwound strings have what kind of sound, who's are bright ?, or who's are mellow ?, which to avoid, etc.

Nice! Is this in your house?
God I'm jealous, if it was my gaff there would be one cat kipping on the amp, and another swinging from a guitar strap, I feel better knowing its in a container, smirk. Hope the move goes well.

Hi from Holmfirth, I don't play all the basses I have, never mind the guitars, thank heavens I don't have room for more than one car !

So, whilst every bass guitar i have has flatwounds, if you put them on a typical six stringer, just cos i like the feel of the flatwound strings, will they ''bend'' like wire wounds, then again it's the single core strings that get all the ''bending'' what if if i put 11 gauge flattys on ?, i like a mellow tone. Getting back into guitars so don't have oodles of knowledge,, answers on a postcard ?

Maybe something older, a bit vintage with a few knocks and bruises, but as cheap as poss, say an original Burns, just because.

AND ?, is there a happy ending, will i need a hanky ?

Morning ' you guitery-esque people's, I live only ten minutes from the home of Matamp, it's owned and run by an old school mate of mine who used to do work for Mathias in the sixty's, he bought the company from Mathias's widow years ago. Anyway, he has tentatively started production of 12 inch driver units to go with the majority of amps that he supplies, think Fane/Celestion drivers. Early days yet but should be interesting, if you need to update or want new cabs, another avenue for ya.

Who loves the sound of some outdated electronic glass bottles with killer voltages running through them?
I've been lucky enough to own a few good ones, a few dodgy ones, and I still own a great one.
Worst was a Marshall TSL122. The clean channel was alright, the other 2 channels were dreadful. It was too powerful an amp for the house, even with the Power Reduction switch engaged. Hey ho, you live & learn.
Had a JCM800 2x12 combo for a while. One of the single channel ones. Sounded great, but it had been revalved many moons previously for 5881's, they sounded good, but they didn't last very well, so it had to be revalved regularly at great expense. After I got it, a speaker failed, so I had to get a replacement (Celestion V30), then the other failed, so I stupidly put another V30 in it. Completely ruined it. Sounded awful with 2 V30's, couldn't get it to sound right after that.
The best one, is a Matamp 1224. Hand built in Yorkshire, pure valvey goodness, and with a really nice vinyl finish that they managed to source specifically for me. Got a matching 4x12 cab and a 1x12 cab for home use, both finished in the same vinyl. Had the faceplate replaced after a year with the "block" 70's Matamp logo. The amp has valve switching features where you can choose 4 different power valve combinations, 1 valve in Class A, 2 valves in Class A, 2 valves in Class AB1 & 4 valves in Class AB1. There's also a half power switch and a Pentode/Triode switch on the back.
What have you got???
Did someone mention MATAMP ?

Well, well, as a bass player I see I'm out of my depth here, some I like already mentioned, Santana, Moore, what about the now departed Jeff Healey, I'll never play as well as him, and I can see !

Thanks for the show reports S.B. over on B/chat, excellent stuff. Are you going to to some for here ?

Hi gang , I play mainly bass and have drifted across from B/chat to pick some brains ! I've got a Rickenbacker 660 fireglow, it's minus strings at the mo and I'm going to sell it, what do I put on to suit prospective customers?
Well I should've been here first, if it had existed

Hi fella, all quiet on the western front at the mo, folk seem unable to move from the other guitar sites, I guess they're comfy there.
