Hi there, I'm a 21 year old guitarist and I'm currently working on my end of final university product design project, where I'm looking to solve issues in the world of guitar and guitar related equipment design. I would love to know your guys & girls thoughts on what specific equipment or parts of your daily guitar playing routine makes you question why the hell that specific task isn't easier, or why that piece of equipment has to take such a complicated route to give you the desired outcome. This relates to anyone who plays guitar at beginner right through to professional level, from messing around playing licks at home to regularly playing gigs, I would love to know your thoughts!!

If it's similar to this one... It's a modest Chinese folk guitar; the s/h price of £70 seems about right, if it's undamaged. Not much to add; get a decent method book or a local tutor and get stuck into playing it.

@lemonstar , I only joined here today but can say from personal experience that Richard's Guitars provided me with excellent customer service last year when I was looking for a new acoustic guitar; one at the lower end of your price-range. Jon, a guy in the sales team, really listened to me and to what I was looking for. I also met Richard briefly, whilst visiting their showroom, nice guy too. I had to make an appointment, and then they only allowed 1 or 2 into their showroom at a time, dunno about now. It is literally just across the road from the train station too, also parking outside. BTW, I have no affiliation, other than buying an acoustic guitar through them. I just speak as I find. Hope this is of some help, although you seem to be going for a rejuvenation project of your Seagull.

The top is unvarnished cedar - it's very soft as you can see from the damage around the sound hole - it's a sweet sounding guitar and I chose it for the neck profile and how it felt in my hands- front to back on the neck is quite slim so nice for gripping the bar chords and getting your thumb over the top to hold the bottom E on some open voiced chords. I'm going to get a quote - I really don't mind the battle scars.

So I got a chance to get this stung up and wow what a difference. It’s been really interesting hearing it before and after I drilled the holes in the well. Before it sounded a little muted or muffled and like it was being choked, or struggling, but now sounds a lot more open. I wouldn’t say it gave it more bass response, but certainly made it sound more controlled. It was also very heavy in the lower mids but the holes have created a little more clarity in the top end, so overall a lot more balanced.

I've given my Seagull S6 a stay of execution - I don't want to string her along - next time - my axe is getting axed. It was a £200 guitar 20 years ago - how much does a refretting cost and would it be worth it?

Open-D tuning (DADF#AD...) is a popular set-up for slide playing, for good reasons. To play along with minor-tuned instruments, tuning the F# down to F can be useful. Read a bit more about it here... Wikipedia : Open-D tuning ... Hope this helps.

Easiest? I’d tune the whole guitar down a half step, giving you an Ebmin7 open tuning and go from there. When I played a lot of slide, I took the E string off and open tuned to G (a la Keef) and fretted behind the slide for different chords, this isn’t the easiest solution, however.
