  2. I thought you were going to play "Fake Plastic Trees" at the start. Who would have guessed that Radiohead could sound like Eric Clapton?

  4. Thanks everybody for your answers and contributions. Made some interesting reading, and some great model photos. Just before Christmas, I privately bought a Marshall amp. The owner asked if I would also take his old black and white Strat off his hands too for a meagre £30.... It was an exact double of the one in my original post with identical headstock and weight. Well...you can guess the rest! Cheers again for all of your input.

  6. I leave you here a video where you can hear what a guitar with a side sound hole sounds like. It is an accessory that is not yet widespread but that I consider to be a great success. Whenever I see how someone reacts when they play a guitar with a side soundhole for the first time, I confirm this. At approximately the 50th second, the mouth on the side opens and you can see the difference. It is always better to listen to it with good speakers or good headphones. I hope you like it. 7. Hello would anyone know the ferrulle size of a 1981 DEAN Z Ferrules SIZE? Depth requirement= Ferrule O.D.=) Dress Lip height= String hole size thanks
  8. All guitars can be clean and glassy, but single coils are probably more favourable as they normally lack that mid range grunt of humbuckers. Dad’s recommendation of P90s would be mine too as they’re my favourites.
  9. You might like to cast your glance in the 'P90' direction, as being single coils with versatility ..? A split-coil humbucker guitar might suit, too. I have Xaviere Thinline with such humbuckers, which sounds fine through my Jazz Chorus amps. Just a thought on options...
  10. Hello guys, lurker around here up until this point. I have a Roland JC-40 amp at home that I got around the time I bought an american jazzmaster for my newly forming group back then. It was a fusion of jazz, classical and dirtier genres. Something along the lines of Tigran Hamasyan album - The Call Within. After burning out because of unsuccessfully trying to find a drummer who'd take on the challenge (6 months or so) I somehow coincidentally ended up going back to hip hop and crafting beats as the possibility to merge my lyrical writing and jazz influences present itself this way. Now what has changed is my preference tone wise. What I'm looking for is clean tones now, to let complex harmonies ring out but not as blunt as a jazz box. Distortion is not desirable atm. I assume a single coil is what I'm looking for. I do like the glass tone of strats and wonder if they'd be a good match for the JC-40. The modding option I mention in the title has to do with a cheap squier strat which I keep on the wall or wherever close to just play whenever I feel like because the playability and construction is goddamn incredible for roughly 150 dollars (second hand). Playability wise actually better than my american jazzmaster worth ten times more. The sound sucks but I believe that's because of the low quality pups that are there. I would absolutely agree with the whole "just get a better guitar than pour more money into a bad and cheap one" if it wasnt such a joy to hold in my hands and play. Thank you in advance for any input you may share with me, Timothy

    'The Answer'

Very tasteful, and a welcome change from some of the current production sounds (yes, I'm old..!). I'll have look at the software, too (although there's little chance of me getting sounds like yours ; I'm a drummer..!)

    'The Answer'

This great number was composed by Kevin Romang and is copyrighted by Duo Astral Plane (Kevin Romang and Silvia Plegniere). I played this using my Fender '56 NOS Stratocaster with the neck and middle pickups (Fender 57/62's) both used together, into the excellent Vintage VST Host software produced by Christian Boileau, available absolutely FREE at - https://vintage-sounds.freeforums.net/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMjwxi8HDlU

  15. Hi All, there has recently been an issue with posting which might have meant that you weren't able to create new threads or post. I believe that issue is now sorted and everything should be working fine. If you find you have any issues with posting, please feel free to report it either by selecting support on the menu above and making a new support request, or by messaging me directly. Thanks
  16. I agree, those are possibly production model guitars and not custom made ones.
  17. They make a good basis for upgrading. I bought a better (push in) tremelo bridge, locking tuners and roller guides for the strings. I stripped all the plastics and hardware off, then rebuilt from scratch. The action was far too high when I got it as it had never been set up properly. Everything (and I mean everything) had to be cleaned (inside was still full of factory dust) adjusted and set up. I now have a very playable guitar, which has been seen and played by experienced band players, giving great feedback (verbal, not electronic! ) If you do decide to do upgrades, use a good quality metal ruler to take measurements accurately. There are varying neck and bridge measurements/string spacings to think about. I had to make the holes for the tuners larger to take the better quality ones. I also resoldered all the electrical connections (replaced some too) as some were almost dropping off.
  18. 19. I don't expect 5W to be plenty, in fact I think it is best suited as a bedroom amp.
  20. It's getting a little bit serious now as I have bought my first pedal, a Tone City Nobleman overdrive pedal, at £35 I feel its a great little buy. It is just what I want giving the sound a little bit of an edge. The only issue is that I forgot that it needs power, fortunately I have been able to use the 9v psu for the RC30 looper that i obtained from my son. I understand that it is possible to run two pieces of kit from one psu, am i correct in this understanding? If so what do i need to do this? I haven't really used the looper much and need to work out how to use it properly, and my intention is to play a backing track to then be able to play over the top. I assume I can use the overdrive pedal with this and I assume the best way to wire the overdrive pedal in is between the guitar and looper rather than the looper and amp, as if between looper and amp then both the looped played tracks would be affected by the pedal, whereas the other waywould enable one or the other or both to be played in overdrive? Finally any tips for how to use the various controls etc on guitar and amp as i dont feel that i am getting maximum benefit and i doingthi gs verymuch by trial and error. Any thoughts or observations please?
  21. So the flight case needs to be protected by being in a flight case, which will need protection by being in a flight case, which will need protection by ... Zzzzzzz ...
  22. That looks great! My only concern would be damages to the box during transit. I was considering a mixer case for the head and rack bits. Looks like it'll be a big industrial rack mounting unit that i'll need to alter.
  23. Box carpentry is not that hard. Have you a buddy or brother-in-law that could help..? Wood cut by the local DIY shop... I modelled it first... Here is the top half, perched on our Ampeg ... Worth thinking about..?
  24. Hi all, been a while. I've recently built a rig consisting of a peavey classic 30 head, cabinet, the breakout box of my g-system and the pedals attached to it. I'm looking for some kind of protective case/s for it to live in. Ideally I'd like to get both head and cab in a front and rear opening case with rack mounting. Stacked the head and cab measure 43x20x12in plus the 2u rack bit of the floorboard. Anyone know of something suitable or has a better idea? Thanks in advance
  25. I've had the Blackstar 1W and 5W. Even the 5W was relatively quiet. You don't cover drums with that. But it's a great bedroom amp!
  26. Hardly worthless when I only want to know about the people who made it. You have enough information. Like the other guy who replied... Absolutely amazing information, exactly the information I wanted so thank you very much for your help
  27. As far as I'm aware that would have been made by the small backroom guitar maker, Gordon Parkinson. He made copies of Strats, Teles, Les Pauls, SGs and some bass guitars. As far as I'm aware they were fairly decent guitars, but sometimes a bit quirky in places, occasionally somewhat dubious finishes. Link to a facebook group about them: https://www.facebook.com/groups/622070049719625
  28. Hello all I could really use some help identifying the roots of my guitar. My brother has a friend who works at the local refuse centre and one day brought home a guitar which now belongs to me but I cannot for the life in me find any information on this guitar. On the headstock it says "Parkinson Leigh, Lancs"... ANY information on this guitar or the people who made it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Matthew
