i personally think there a better guitars out there than fender and gibsons, but even though they are cheaper they are still not cheap. Anyway, i lucked out in getting a really high quality guitar for cheap. It cost around £3k new, but i got it for less than 900. After that, I made sure I improved my playing and was worthy of such a guitar, I started learning stuff off youtube. 2 months later I was in a band playing lead guitar with that guitar. I have played since I was 13 but getting a really good hihg quality guitar really made me kick my own ass to learn how to play it and be worthy of it

i'd go for a used yamaha. just make sure the action is not too high as that might indicate it needs a neck reset which costs more than the guitar itself. I've had a few FG's over the years and still have a FG335 or something like that, looks great. sounds massive and cost 180

Undoubtedly Steve Cropper, then Pete Townsend, Bruce Welch, Charlie Christian, Barney Kessel, Joseph Reinhardt ( Django’s brother), Paul Simon, John Lennon. There are dozens of other early jazz guitarists who played in big bands who not only kept the rhythm but also played through a plethora of chords.

Stratocaster... Emperor's new clothes?
Hydra19 replied to randythoades's topic in General Discussion
i've been obsessed with strats recently, and it's funny because 10 years ago I had a bunch of Mosrites and swore I'd never have a Strat. Now I have so many of them, I'm always selling them off. Maybe it's because i had a stratocaster growing up, so it does feel comfortable tp play. What I like about them is there is so much scope to set it up to your own personal playing experience, from the tremolo springs, to the screws on the 6-point bridge and action. relief and strings, as well as pickups. I find my own comfort space is with the tremolo slightly blocked, I don't use it much and want the gutiar to stay in tune. But of course I tinker and try all kinds of things. I found a video of Hendrix where he definitely has his tremolo floating, so I set one up like that, and then tuned it down to D standard, now that Strat plays amazing and sounds so much bluesier and better. I love Stratocaster, but I think I love Telecasters even more. Anyway, I always wanted a green strat, and finally I found a green body, now I'm waiting for the right neck to come along. Over the last 5 years, I probably had 10 strats that I sold, mostly japanese - Navigator, Crews Maniac, Seymour Duncan, Tokai....All good./ Now I'm trying to cut down to one or two really nice Strats! Favorite colors are metallic green and 3TS -
I had a block that was non-magnetic so it wasn't steel. not sure what it was but it sounded good, only after researching did i find out it didn't have a steel block and I added one. I did notice a bit of a brigther sound, but nothing drastic and it didn't change the voice of the guitar too much but it was an improvent to my ears

Greeting everyone, glad I found this place! I'm a guitarist who's started playing bass as well around 3 years ago and I really enjoy both instruments. I do my own setups, repairs and part exchanges so am often selling parts off to buy new ones! I'm looking forward to sharing knowledge and tips about guitars, setups, pickups and pedals!

Anyone interested in a little stocking filler for the guitarist in your life, before I list this elsewhere? -
Does anyone know of a chatroom or more active community for beginners? I joined a discord but there aren't many members yet and I could really do with a bit of a kick up the butt from people.

How's the volume unplugged? If my understanding of the effect of the resonator cone is correct, it should be rather louder than an unplugged solid body?

Playing slide in odd minor keys
EliasMooseblaster replied to This Wreckage's topic in Theory and Technique
It depends a lot on the chords in the composition - and, to be honest, how big a role the slide guitar is playing. But my first instinct would be to tune your guitar to open G minor (DGDGBbD), then pop a capo on the 3rd fret. If the piece uses a lot of major chords (particularly the major IV), you might be better off using G major tuning, and fretting behind the slide when you need minor chords. - Earlier

Very nice. All the best with it.

soooo - I don't know - and Godin don't have a wiring diagram for the earlier ones of these with two switches - and say "Both are mid range filters which cut half the dB level at 600 Hz." but the circuit is a fair bit simpler than the one they used on the one switch version. It seems to go between series and parallel - but in parallel it has a capacitor on one of the coils.... So it goes from a kinda humbucker type sound to a thinner kinda single coil type sound.

Coil taps or coil splitters for each pup?

Looks like a nice bit of kit. Hope you have fun learning on it!
