Guild M-75 Pickup Upgrade Advice/Suggestions

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I'm keen to get some opinions before making some changes to my Guild M-75 Aristocrat.

I love this guitar, but it there's a lot of humming with the current pickup that it has.

And I would love to make some upgrade(s) so that I can achieve a more "Jazzy" sounds as I would be focusing more on the Jazz side of things.

Right now, the guitar's using the default Guild Franz P90 Soapbars.

I'm planning to:

  1. Upgrade the current pickups to Lindy Fralin Hum Cancelling P90s pickups for both and
  2. Changing the current Ernie Ball Regular Slinky Nickel Wound Strings (10-46) to Thomastik Jazz Swing Series Flatwound Set 12-50

Keen to get some opinions about this, especially whether upgrading the Guild P90 Soapbars to Lindy Fralin Hum Cancelling P90s pickups would be a good move.

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it :)

Good afternoon...

To judge from the videos I've watched, featuring these p/u's, I'd say it's an excellent move to make, and would be well suited to that guitar and style you're looking for. Check carefully all the dimensions, especially the fixing points to the instrument, and be sure to do the wiring-up carefully (if you have the soldering skills; if not, take it to a reliable guitar tech...). Not cheap, but they will last a lifetime. Keep the original p/u's just the same, for the unlikely case of wanting to sell the guitar in the future. OK, I understand; it's a 'keeper'. Do the upgrade, and post again here with the result, please..? rWNVV2D.gif

Hi Douglas!

I end up upgrading the pickup to the Kent Armstrong Handwound Body-Mounted PAF Jazz Humbucker Pickups and also changed the string to Thomastik-Infeld GB114 Jazz Guitar Strings: George Benson - Nickel Flatwound.

Very happy with the result and thought to just share with you!

Thanks for your response :)
