Jillity
Yesterday I offered a vintage jumbo acoustic guitar on a buy, sell and swap page on Facebook. I wanted to swap it for something smaller. Soon after it was offered someone said they thought the guitar might be a Gibson and that I should get it valued. It has started a discussion on the Facebook page. I'm pretty sure it's not a Gibson. The guitar belonged to my late husband and it was gifted to him many years ago by a friend. The label inside is almost gone but on the head it says, 'Custom.' I'm pretty sure it says Custom on the label as well. Can anyone help please? Suggestions so far are Gibson, Eko and Epiphone. ezbass
The tailpiece looks like an Aria, so I'm guessing that it's a Japanese copy, which isn't a bad thing in itself, there is a quite a market for Japanese copies, but not a Gibson IMO. Jillity
I managed to track it down and it's a Kimbara. It's a Gibson J200 copy. I didn't realise these sell for much more money than I was going to sell for. I thought about £25 but it seems they're being offered for around £300. Whether people ever get that sort of money I don't know. I shall take it into a music shop and see what they think. I might raise enough to buy a Gear4music dreadnought acoustic. They're excellent for the price, easy to play and just right what I want.
ezbass
Kimbara, ah yes, I remember them. One of the better Japanese copies IIRC. Good luck with the sale.
Jillity
It was bought in 1973/4 so it's a lawsuit guitar.
