I thought that the GDI21 was a guitar sim with DI in it's own right? I have one and have always used it as such.

Not sure it will react properly with the Pod going into the front end, it isn't designed with that in mind. You will always be running the amp sim from the Pod into the amp sim on the GDI21.

As you say, just try it and see...

If you only need 2 sounds, I would just have 2 GDI21 (or 2 different amp sim pedals) on a board and turn on or off as needed.

I did think of that, but the Pod is full of FX too, noise gate/compression/reverb/delay etc.

  2. I guess this is a try it and see situation, but I need to find out how to use a Pocket Pod live.

The plan was to connect the Pod to a DI, but as the GDI21 has a DI out it will give a bit more versatility.

I only need 2 sounds, clean and dirty, which I will get from the Pod. But if I need to change between them mid song I can use a clean Pod sound, and kick on a dirty GDI21 sound.

I'm guessing noise gate full on in the Pod?

    Guitar > wireless > Pocket Pod > GDI21 > PA

I totally forgot I started this topic  🥺
I've had it for a while now and it's absolutely fabulous !

I ended up buying these. The thickness is the same for all, 0.6 and 1.2, but the material for each is different with different levels of 'flex'.

The green is the stiffest, followed by red then black. Ideally I'd want the green pick but with the black softer pick.

  5. Good advice from all above, the only thing I would say is that for me playing along to a metronome is slightly less boring than watching paint dry.

Playing along with drums can make things a bit more interesting, plenty of free apps available on the t'internet.

Also playing along with songs can be good as this will also work your 'ear' as you find the key and how to fit the licks.

  6. There are no absolutes.

At a gig you might expect ZZ Top to be wearing denims, or you might expect them to be wearing suits. They're gonna be awesome regardless.

Flying V's may be associated with metal, but when they came out lots of Country bands were using them.

Billy Duffy uses his Gretch in The Cult. No Rockabilly in sight!

  8. Excitement and nervousness share similar physiological symptoms, so adjusting your mindset can help..

If you like gigging, the next time you feel nervous about it, tell yourself 'I'm not nervous, I'm excited!' and smile while you're saying it.

"even a fake smile — can have a positive impact on mood. Essentially, triggering certain facial muscles by smiling can "trick" your brain into thinking you're happy".

    Psychology innit! 😀

One of those control pick type things, thin at one end, thicker at the other. Or just DIY one with a nail file or similar.

I usually use Jim Dunlop stubbies for lead, so filing isn't an option.

    What are the control picks?

  10. So if I'm recording a Niles Rodgers type funky guitar part, I'll use a thinner bendy pick, but if I'm recording a shred solo, I use a solid pointy fat pick.

The question is, what to do live when I have to play both?

Is this why people have picks on the mic stand? 😆

  11. In terms of lyrics, context is everything.

eg. in the USA they refer to University as 'school', so an American band singing about waiting for a girl after school, isn't necessarily as bad as it sounds.

    Although it probably is 😶

I thought I'd relearn a few obvious AC/DC things, so I had a listen to a couple of early albums.

The thing about AC/DC (and to a similar extent Status Quo) is that there are so many bands doing bad cover versions.

Reason being, on first listen the songs do sound simple. But take a closer listen and they are doing all kinds of interesting stuff. Malcolm especially, is always using different inversions, and different octaves, which usually get missed when other people play them.
