Plectrum problem/technique

Recommended Posts

So if I'm recording a Niles Rodgers type funky guitar part, I'll use a thinner bendy pick, but if I'm recording a shred solo, I use a solid pointy fat pick.

The question is, what to do live when I have to play both?

Is this why people have picks on the mic stand? 😆

One of those control pick type things, thin at one end, thicker at the other. Or just DIY one with a nail file or similar.

I usually use Jim Dunlop stubbies for lead, so filing isn't an option.

What are the control picks?

I ended up buying these. The thickness is the same for all, 0.6 and 1.2, but the material for each is different with different levels of 'flex'.

The green is the stiffest, followed by red then black. Ideally I'd want the green pick but with the black softer pick.
