  1. Having been beset with dreadnought GAS for quite a while, I delved into what I actually wanted despite being wowed by a Yamaha trans-acoustic . It had to be 24.75” scale for comfort, mahogany back and sides for that nice midrange (I have a rosewood folk sized guitar for that deeper tone, very much suited to fingerstyle) and sound good of course. Research led me to the ‘inspired by Gibson’ range by Epiphone. These are built from solid woods, more attention detail and a very thin, semi-gloss finish. The two in the running were the J45 and Hummingbird. I trotted off to Dundee with the two acoustics I already own for comparison (no point buying something that does the same as you already have), pretty sure that it would be the Hummingbird, which I’d gleaned from the YouTube videos I’d watched. I started with the J45 and was immediately mightily impressed, it knocked spots off my run of the mill Epi EJ200 and I thought I may have been hasty in my preconceptions. Then I played the Hummingbird, within one strum I knew that this was what I was looking for. It had the same playability as the J45, combined with a wonderful, vibrating feedback from the back of the guitar, but with a really sonorous low end lacking in the J45 (which is designed not have this apparently). I played a few things on it and compared it to the EJ200 and my Simon & Patrick Rosewood Folk Pro, but it was unnecessary, I was hooked from the get go. Yes, it needs a little setting up and a string change (kudos to Kenny’s for not even blinking when I asked if they’d throw in a set of strings and for their sterling service altogether), but I think we’re going to be very happy together. What’s that I hear you say Very well…
  2. Hi, I’m planning to go for what is advertised as a epiphone les Paul standard 2013 in wine red only thing is the serial number when I ran it is an 2007…but they weren’t available in wine red in 07…the machine heads are grovers which matches a 2013 standard plus top pro but not the 07… all the other hardware also matches a 13 model… anyone any ideas ?
  3. Hi guys, I've discovered something about my Epi 339 Pro which I thought I'd ask the collective about. With the pick-up toggle switch in the middle position (both pick-ups on), if I turn the volume on either pup down to zero then the whole guitar goes silent. Is this normal behaviour for a 2x volume / 2x tone Epi? I've seen conflicting things online, and I can see where it would be useful (quickly silencing a guitar onstage). In reality it's probably not a big-deal either way for me. I practice with vol/tone fully on, and if I want one pup or the other I just toggle. Mainly I'm curious, as aftermarket pups have been fitted. If the wiring is wrong then I'll get it fixed whenever I take it for a set-up. If it's just a quirk of Epiphone then at least I know! Cheers!
  4. My G string (lmaoo) on my Epiphone Wildkat is higher than the rest. I tried lowering the bridge and it didn’t work. Any idea on how to fix it?

  6. Good day. I hope somebody will be able to assist me. So I have a Epiphone Les Paul Standard and the neck broke beginning of the year with the guitar still working 100%. It was in the hardcase for the time so I decided instead of fixing the neck to buy a new body and neck as a DIY project and just install the hardware and electrical parts in the new body. I removed the pickups by cutting the wire in the middle of each pickup and removed all the wires and control knobs without disconnecting any other wires from where it was soldered. So basically the only wires that I had to reconnect was the two pick up wires. So I installed everything in the new body with the earth at the correct place and joined the pickup wires precisely as I removed them. After all this I plugged it in and nothing. Not even a sound or noise. I removed the pick ups again to male sure that there is no short circuit but could not find anything. What can be a common problem? I want to see if I can fix it myself before taking to a guitar shop. Thanks
  7. Hi all, I have just tried to change my guitar strings and removed the original strings, its a les paul copy 2 epiphone, and the 'bridge' (not too sure if thats the correct word) is completely loose and can slip right out. I will insert pictures. And another piece can also come out. I wasnt sure whether or not to tighten it in case it wasnt right to do so. As I'm sure it is obvious from the title and lack of knowledge that I'm a beginner so please don't judge lol! XD
  8. Right, let's get this forum moving with some satiated GAS. Having tried this out last week, I pulled the trigger today and I'm ever so glad I waited, £60 off the advertised online price. I've taken off the horribly contrasting white pickguard and have set it up. Plays really nicely and those stock P90s sound great, especially the neck pickup. Minor gripes are that there a few sharpish fret ends (easily fixed) and that the pau ferro used for the fretboard has obviously been stained a bit and putting some lemon oil on the rather dry looking 'board, caused some stain to come off on my fingers. Still that's merely cosmetic and, again, easily fixable. Oh what's that I hear you say? Very well...
