  1. I’m a wholly self-taught guitarist and like many others, I’ve found myself in a rut. I play acoustic and I kinda want to venture in to the world of creating my own fingerstyle arrangements. I have some idea of where to start but I don’t exactly know how to make my arrangements interesting? I fear I lack the technical skills to do so. How do I get out of this?
  2. Hi all, first time poster and inexperienced player at the start of my journey here. I'm trying to do a bit of detective work on a Tanglewood acoustic and I saw that someone else had done this with some success on here a few years back. I picked up a secondhand mahogany tw133 parlour from my local guitar shop recently and it's got me intrigued... It plays well and has a lovely warm tone that I wouldn't expect from a £200 instrument, even with the amount of mahogany it supposedly has, almost like it has a good bit of age to it. It shows significant scuffs and scratches to the front and sides, quite heavy yellowing on the nut and saddle and a good bit of wear on the back of the neck. A friend took a look at the serial number and suggested it was from the '90s and now I've got a bee in my bonnet to find out if that's true (probably not). Wondering if anyone on here could help throw a little light on it, I've reached out to Tanglewood but nothing from them so far.

Hello, I play folksy acoustic guitar on a small Tanglewood Discovery parler/folk guitar. I have a background in Indian Classical Music and have learnt tanpura tuning, vocal and tabla. My hometown is in Allahabad, India. I owned a Guild 12-string acoustic jumbo dreadnaught for a while. I also set up a recording studio for acoustic recording a long time ago. I like Dire Straits. I'm 55 years old.
  4. I know big brands like Taylor and Martin have good quality acoustic guitars, but I would also like to try out other brands. Recently I’ve purchased this LAVA ME 3 guitar. It’s an acoustic electric guitar with a display on it! So with the display, you can control the build-in effects and loops straight from the guitar. It’s an interesting one because I wouldn’t categorise it as a normal acoustic nor an electric guitar. Just sharing my experience of this niche brand. Anyone heard about it and maybe play a Lava guitar? This is what it looks like: IMG_7272.HEICIMG_7274.HEICIMG_7275.HEIC

  6. Hello! Here is my arrangement of Allegretto from Beethoven's 7th symphony for the 10 string guitar. Hope you enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwUNwjxMQqw
  7. Part of the Taylor GS series, the GS8 uses Taylor's Grand Symphony body shape. This guitar has a Sitka Spruce top with Indian Rosewood back and sides, is in fantastic condition and sounds great, will throw in a top of the range rare earth pickup system. Ideal for picking or strumming, check out the reviews online. Any marks in the pics are just light or reflections from the camera flash on my phone. The guitar is in mint condition with lovely aged wood, sounds and plays lovely. This guitar isn't made anymore and is one of the all time Taylor classic models, check out some reviews here https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234120 You can check out my feedback on Basschat the sister site to this one for bass players.
  8. So I needed to change the strings on my Brook acoustic - a small jumbo with a lovely, lively sound but well balanced. Anywa, I decided to try some coated strings to see how they worked and for a bit of extra in-case longevity. Normally I’ve used phosphor bronze strings on all my guitars before this but I bought some 80/20 bronze Elixirs and I hate them. The sound is horribly mid ranged and honky both acoustically and through the LR Baggs Dual Source pickup system. As I just DI straight in pulling back the mid on my EQ isn’t an option and the pickup system just has Vol and Piezo/Mic blend onboard. So anyone had experience with more mellow, even sounding coated strings? Should I try the Elixir Phosphor Bronze strings? Or is there another brand/type you might recommend for a nice, even, mellow sound. Ta.
